Setting Spotlight

Skilled Nursing Facilities

Different settings will serve different populations and have varying types of teams, productivity levels, and hours. During a SNF assignment, a new grad PT will likely work with a geriatric population, though there may be exceptions. Patients can range from short-term to residents. Physical therapists in this setting will complete evaluations, and create and execute care plans for patients. In addition, skilled nursing facilities employ interdisciplinary teams, which means that new grad PTs will learn from working alongside other healthcare professionals, such as OTs, SLPs, and nurses, while gaining skills in a comprehensive care setting.
