PT Settings in California
Do you think that you deserve financial stability and professional flexibility after completing your DPT? We do too. It is our goal at Advanced Travel Therapy to ensure that our new grad PTs have the confidence, security, and support they need to explore and prioritize their professional and personal interests. Through 13-week travel assignments, you can try different settings in locations across the country, try the same setting in different facilities, or extend at one you love.
Below you will find short descriptions of a few of the settings you can explore in California.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
When it comes to patients and diagnoses, there is some variation at a skilled nursing facility. Patients may need help rehabilitating due to concerns that range from the neurological to the orthopedic. They may also be at the facility for a short term stay or be residents. One of the most important things to be gained at a SNF is the experience working on a interdisciplinary team of various healthcare professionals including nurses, OTs, and SLPs. A new grad PT will learn a lot about comprehensive care while completing a SNF assignment.
A home health assignment may not be a new grad’s first choice since the responsibility can be a little daunting, but this setting offers opportunities to learn independence, confidence, and relationship building. You will also get to treat many different diagnoses such as joint replacement, fractures, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, heart failure, and more. This is also a great choice for a new grad who isn’t ready to commit to working in the same facility every day and needs a little variety.
The patients a new grad will treat in an outpatient setting will usually be motivated to get better. In an outpatient clinic or hospital, PTs will see individuals who are struggling with musculoskeletal and neuromuscular impairments. This means a new grad will get to treat varying diagnoses for patients who want to improve.
