How Much Do PTs Make In FL?

$42.46 per hour

$2,067 per week

$86,520  per year

According to BLS, the national median pay for the field of physical therapy is currently $85,400 per year and $41.06 per hour. You can see that the hourly, weekly, and yearly wage and salary averages are not very far from the national figures. These numbers, however do not truly reflect the variances in compensation that will arise due factors like years of experience, education, or setting. For example, PayScale indicates that there can be a difference of $10,000 in the salary of those that have 0-5 years of experience and those that have 5-10 years. Sources also indicate that settings can play a significant role in how much a physical therapist gets paid. Home health, for example, can be more lucrative than outpatient care.

Considering that new grads don’t have much clinical experience under their belts, they do run the risk of falling on the lower end of compensation. Becoming a travel PT with Advanced can help greatly in this regard.

In general, travel therapists make more than their permanently placed counterparts and with Advanced, you will have a recruiter negotiating on your behalf and ensuring that your pay is the best that it can be. You will also be able to take advantage of tax-breaks that can increase your take home pay. In addition, we will offer you $5,000 in tuition reimbursement, great benefits, referral bonuses, and free CEUs. All these factors add up and greatly raise your earning potential.

PT Settings in Florida

As a new grad, you may not be aware of all the advantages of travel. Although benefits like high pay, tuition reimbursement, mentorship, free CEUs, and comprehensive medical coverage are awesome, the real benefits of travel is actually the professional and personal flexibility.

Through 13-week travel assignments, you can try different settings in locations across the country, the same setting in different facilities, or extend at ones you love. This level of control can let you gain experience with different teams in varied settings which looks great on a resume. You will also be able to find your calling before settling down. Furthermore, you can follow personal passions by planning your assignments and time off to create a real work-life balance.

Below you will find short descriptions of a few of the settings you can explore in Florida.

Home Health

The home health assignment will involve a physical therapist offering treatment in their patients' homes. Although this can seem daunting for a new grad PT at first, it can actually be very rewarding. Home health will allow a new grad to quickly learn independence, confidence, and relationship building. There are also varying diagnoses seen in this setting, such as joint replacement, fractures, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, and heart failure.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

At a SNF, a new grad PT will help restore and maintain physical function for patients, usually geriatric, needing comprehensive and interdisciplinary care due to illness or injury. A physical therapist in this setting may treat neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, integumentary, and/or cardiopulmonary diagnoses. You can expect to perform evaluations, and create and execute PT care plans to help enhance quality of life for the patients you treat.

Acute Care

In an acute setting, usually at a hospital facility, a new grad PT will learn to assist patients in critical condition. Working alongside a medical team, physical therapists will help ensure that patients are discharged safely and offer recommendations for continued rehabilitation that may be needed after discharge.
