How Much Do OTs Make In MD?

$40.10 per hour

$2,002 per week

$83,420 per year

Pulling from resources like BLS and Indeed (see links below), we pinned down average weekly, hourly, and annual salaries for OTs working in Maryland. These figures are good, but they may not tell the whole story. Factors like tax, time off, contract versus permanent positions, and benefits get lost when looking at averages.

What we can tell you for sure is that OTs traveling with Advanced are usually compensated better than their permanently placed counterparts. Our recruiters help new grads take advantage of pretty significant tax-breaks and housing stipends, increasing the amount of take home pay they actually get per week. We also offer our new grads $5,000 in tuition reimbursement, great benefits, and free CEUs.

OT Settings in Maryland

Real talk: If you want to become an OT rock star, traveling may be the path to get you there. Travel therapy guarantees that you will get more experience in more settings with different patient populations and teams. You will be able to impact many lives as you move from assignment to assignment.

Traveling also allows for as much personal growth as it does professional. Between each of your 13-week assignments (that is typical, but there are exceptions) you can explore the country, take time off, and focus on yourself and family. Professionally, you can try a setting in various locations, try different settings in the same location, or extend at a facility you love. While Advanced Travel Therapy has your back, you can become the therapist you want, live the life you want, and make great money along the way!

Below you will find short descriptions of a few of the settings you will find in Maryland.

Skilled Nursing Facilities

In a SNF, a new grad OT will gain experience in the short to long-term rehabilitation of patients. Although it is commonly believed that all patients in a SNF are from a geriatric population, this is not always the case. Diverse patients require the interdisciplinary care offered at SNFs after illness or injury. In this setting, you will get the chance to work alongside other healthcare professionals while offering various treatments for a plethora of diagnoses.

Home Health

The Home Health setting gives a new grad OT the chance to make the biggest impact where it is needed most, in a patient’s home. You can evaluate and assist with daily activity performance within the space that a person wants to feel safest and most comfortable. A few of the assessments and treatments that may come your way in this setting include:

  • Home safety
  • Home exercise programs
  • Joint protection
  • Adaptive equipment assessment and instruction
  • Independent living training

School Setting

In a school setting, the interventions that a new grad OT may play a part in include everything from conducting environment analyses to determining alternate learning methods for students with significant challenges. You will also learn a lot about collaborating with parents, educators, administrators, and the students themselves. This will give you the experience you need to play a key role in making  school environments healthy ones.

Living In Maryland

Maryland is filled with some pretty awesome cities. Annapolis, Silver Spring, and Baltimore are a few. They’ve all got great food, art, shopping, and music venues. You could spend your time off discovering what all these fun places have to offer.

If you’re using travel therapy as an opportunity to see one-of-a-kind sights and to experience the unique, here’s a list of a few of the things that only Maryland has to offer:

  • Assateague Island- Watch wild beach ponies for a swim
  • The Site of Edgar Allen Poe’s Death
  • The Ghost Fleet of Mallows Bay- Remnants of WWI turned ecosystem
  • Wheaton Station Escalator- The longest escalator in the Western Hemisphere
  • The Awakening Sculpture at The National Harbor

Maryland also offers OTs who want to use time off to explore the outdoors plenty to do throughout the year. That's right, the adventurous souls can do more in MD than surf in Ocean City. You can hike part of the Appalachian Trail, bike abandoned train tracks, fly fish on the Savage River, crab on Chesapeake Bay, and so much more.
