PT Settings in Virginia
There is no better combination than professional flexibility and financial stability. As a new grad with Advanced Travel Therapy you will be given the choice to grow in one setting through multiple assignments, or try out different settings while switching from one assignment to another. All the while, you will have the opportunity to work with different patient populations in different locations. That’s right, we are not going to tell you what you have to do or where you have to do it. You will build your resume and become a better therapist with every assignment you take regardless of setting or location. And you’ll also be making mad bank!
Below you will find short descriptions of a few of the settings you will find in Virginia.
The Home Health setting gives PTs the opportunity to treat varying diagnoses such as joint replacement, fractures, stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, heart failure, and more. Patients range from the pediatric to the geriatric. While treating a patient in his or her place of residence may seem a little daunting to a new grad, a home health assignment can be a great way to learn independence, confidence, and relationship building. It’s also a great option to try if you’re a new grad PT who wants to avoid the routine of going to the same facility every day.
Skilled Nursing Facilities
New grad PTs who are looking to grow their interdisciplinary teamwork knowledge will love working in SNFs. The patients in SNFs are usually cared for by teams of healthcare professionals including PTs, OTs, SLPs, audiologists, and nurses. In this setting, a PT will learn the value of a comprehensive care plan and how PT fits into an inclusive treatment approach. SNFs generally offer long term care (though there are exceptions) to assist in the rehabilitative care of those suffering after illness or injury.
In an acute setting, new grad PTs will learn how to assist in the stabilization of patients so that they may be discharged from the facility safely. Patients may be recovering from a surgery, accident, or illness. This is an excellent way for a PT to build and sharpen skills with more severe cases in a short-term facility.
