November’s New Grad of The Month: ShaRhonda Wingo
Our New Grad of the Month for November is ShaRhonda Wingo! ShaRhonda is an SLP completing her CF with us! Her recruiter Katie, explained that during her first assignment as a CF in a medical setting, she showed grace and maturity well above her years. She rose to each test and obstacle that was thrown her way and did it with with a smile on her face and a positive attitude. Thanks for being part of the Advanced Fam!
“She is a rock star! I honestly cannot say enough great things about her. She is a shinning example for all CF’s, and all therapists on what true professionalism, grace, and strength looks like in the face of adversity. I am so glad, and honored to have her on my team.” – Advanced Recruiter, Katie Noerper
Get to Know ShaRhonda Wingo
What drew you to pursuing SLP as a career? I grew up watching Cleft lip repair stories on the Discovery Health channel and thought it was super cool. My sister was selectively mute and I would attend her therapy sessions just for the M&M’s. I never knew the actual name of the field. Somehow I took a random career quiz sophomore year after the atrocious ACT and BAM!! I found the love of my life. I did some research to confirm, and it’s been love ever since.
Why did you decide on travel therapy for your CF? Well, being from a small town in good ole Mississippi, I decided that I wanted to venture out. I didn’t really have a set destination, but I knew I had seen enough of Mississippi for the time being. Killing two birds with one stone sounded like the perfect plan.
What is one thing you hope to accomplish as a travel SLP? I really hope to find an area that I want to live in and setting that I want to pursue long-term. There are so many different opportunities in the field, and I haven’t quite figured out which fits me the best yet.
What is the number one place you hope to travel to and why? Hawaii!! The weather, culture, volcanos, I could go on. I want to swim in the ocean but first I have to learn how to swim. Who wouldn’t want an extended vacation with a little work??
What’s a fun fact about yourself? I don’t check the weather or watch the news, I just wait for my left knee to start hurting to give me a heads up on rain or a temperature drop. I have super powers!
