KaylaPlease welcome Kayla Layner to our distinguished lineup of new grad mentors. Kayla is the latest Advanced Medical therapist to give their time and insight to our young travelers in need of support. Kayla combines a comprehensive skill set with a propensity to try new things.

Kayla grew up in the small town of Parkersburg, West Virginia before becoming a Mountaineer at West Virginia University where she received a bachelor’s degree as well as her master’s in Occupational Therapy. While at WVU, Kayla had the opportunity to work with the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health completing rat-model research on muscle injury, exercise and neuromuscular diseases where she was able to present at conferences at the national level. Although she is proud to call Almost Heaven, West Virginia home, she felt that it was time to spread her wings and experience life outside of the hills. After discussing travel with fellow mentor Aliza Krug, she was quickly intrigued by the amount of diversity and flexibility that the travel world could provide.

She was eager to expand her therapy toolbox through experiencing a variety of settings, diagnoses, and groups of people all while exposing herself to new areas of the country. Kayla is licensed in WV, VA, and NC with experience in SNF, ALF, Acute, and LTC. She is a passionate OT who loves to share her experiences with others and hopes to be a positive resource to fellow new grad travelers! Kayla especially enjoys her work in Skilled Nursing Facilities where she feels privileged to have made a number of close relationships. In her words, “I have adopted grandmas and grandpas everywhere, how cool is that?” Kayla also finds time to satisfy her many outdoor pursuits, including snowboarding, hunting, and camping while being a traveler who enjoys meeting new people. Kayla also writes an amazing blog called See Ya, Layner in which chronicles her life as a travel therapist. Welcome Kayla and thank you for your desire to give back!
