Why or how did you get into therapy?
After completing my undergraduate degree, I was employed by my hometown’s hospital. While employed there, I worked alongside an occupational therapist (OT). The OT was gracious enough to allow me to observe her and introduced me to other OTs in different settings. Through observing and doing my own research, I became very drawn to the holistic approach of occupational therapy and decided to enroll into OT school.
Do you have any advice for future therapists?
Believe in yourself. That sounds cliché but is very true. You have been preparing to become a therapist for years and now the time has finally come. Trust the knowledge and skills you have gained from your schooling and internships to help you overcome the challenges that will come. Also, utilize your mentor(s). He/she will be your go-to and can provide that extra boost of confidence when needed.
Favorite travel location and why?
Harrisonburg, Virginia. The city itself offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains, has plenty of indoor and outdoor activities, and is a only short drive from three national parks and Washington, DC.
What are some of your hobbies?
I enjoy hiking and exploring local coffee shops and breweries.
